So I did a HUGE water change on my 20g yesterday and realized that the suction cup on my heater had been melting all this time (I touched my hand to it and came away like stringy black tar!). So I'm wondering now if that's what had been bothering my fish and not velvet?
I'm wondering this because almost as soon as I moved my gouramis to the medicated 5g, they quit shimmying, yawning and scratching! Plus, I've been shining a flashlight on them every day and I'm beginning to wonder if I mistook their sparkles for velvet? It's hard to tell!
The female still does seem a bit pale, though she colours up every time she's near the male (trying to entice him to spawn, I'm sure... :hmm3grin2orange: ), and she still has a few brown/black spots on her head. If it's black spot, though, there's not much I can do but wait for the parasites to drop off, as there's really no treatment available, and the cycle will break eventually as there are no birds to eat the fish and keep it going. :ezpi_wink1:
Anyway, I guess I'll just keep watching them and see what happens.
If it is velvet, it's obviously not a very virulent strain as all my fish are alive and don't seem to be getting any worse.
Thanks for all the advice and help so far!
