i have been bitten by all of them while training them to eat market shrimp and pellets. They're not mean...just thought my fingers were food. it isn't much fun either way.

thanks,

my 3 larger gar are in a 180 gal and my baby longnose gar is in a 29 gal growout tank until it is large enough to be put w/ the larger ones. within the next year or two i am planning on getting a 375-500 gallon tank for them.

Totally awesome photos and fish!

Heard of gars but never seen one before.

PS.....When posting pics, you may want to down size them just a bit to not toss the margins off. 800 x 600 works well here and still makes for an awesome picture.

Love your gars! thumbs2: Another type of fish I would love to have but not enough room for them....so I have to admire them in other people's tanks! Thanks for posting your pictures! :luxlove:

Really Nice!

I saw you were feeding them pellets? (or bits of fish lol)

I use to have 2 hujeta gars but never got any other food in them except for live goldfish and some super market shrimp..

all of my gar eat FD krill, market shrimp, smelt, or pellets. none of my fish eat live foods once they are under my care.

hujeta gar are not actually gar they are a characin. i used to have a pair of them that would eat pellets occasionally, but it was hit or miss.
