Hey, can anyone give me some info on "run of the mill" plecos? And can one go in a 55 gallon tank?
What exactly do you mean by run of the mill...if you mean common plecos they would outgrow a 55..they get about 24in.

yea common plecos get too big, but something like a golden nugget, bushynose, or zebra pleco, along with some other types, stay small enough for a 55
those are good suggestions but you cant really get zebras anymore. I asked about them at my lfs and the guy laughed at me and said not anymore and not for under a 1000 dollars(I would'a laughed too if I knew they had gotten so rare) But he also said theres a chocolate zebra thats similar but brown instead of the dark black that you could get for around 45 dollars.

Common pleco. Definitely not in a 55, not for long, anyway.

Thats becuase the country that the zebra plecos are found banded catching them because people tore up the enviroment looking for them and they are puting the fish in danger of extinction.
Yea the guy told me that the only place they are being bred and exported really is germany and not many people breed them.
