okay, just curious here i have 6 bettas at present now. and 2 of them have a filter and the other four do not. what does everyone think would be best for a betta-filter or no filter? the 2 that have one, 1 is a Whisper mini filter, and the other is an undergravel filter. i think , but am not positive that they may prefer to not have any filtration, and i was trying to decide if i should give the other bettas some filtration whether in the form of air stones and pumps, UG filters, regular filters, or sponge filters , whatever i don;t know. what is everyone;s opinions here? i mean, i do think the filtration (obviously) helps to keep the water cleaner but i was just wondering if they may prefer not to have any filtration/air flow. since they are the ones that have to live in there.

filters are good for bettas as long as it is not strong enough to disturb their swimming(should be able to rest on bottom without tipping over to the side.)I wouldnt use the air filters though they dont do much for bettas except create current.

I have a whisper 3i, that works fairly well for my betta. But i'm thinking of getting the azoo palm filter, from drs. foster and smith. It looks like it would work better than the whisper I have.

I saw that filter to and it does look better.. I also had that in mind for my betta.Does the whisper 3 cause a lot of current b/c I would think of getting that?

You don't really need a filter but if you really want one my friend has this neat one on his 2.5 gallon. It is about the size of my fist, it is called a nano something.

I don't think it causes much current, but the "bubble" noises absolutely drive me up a wall. But i've heard that those filters usually don't make a lot of noise, but mine sure does.

Yesterday I bought a 1 gal. "betta cove" it comes with an undergravel filter with an airstone and hood with a light I thought not bad for 20 bucks. Plus my wife wouldnt let me leave the pet store without one. Anyway I hook everything up and add tap water with a drop of water conditioner when I plugged the filter in, it spit foam and tiny bubbles to the top of the tank and looks to be causing quite a current. This doesn't look right to me not to mention, this is kinds stupid, but when I checked to picture on the box this aquarium came in the water flow looks peaceful and the bubbles being produced are of the larger variety. When I called the pet store to ask about this the woman told me there could be too much conditioner in the water and to try a partial water change and see what happens. Well that didn't work and the tank is still pumping foamy bubbles rapidly to the top.

Is it that the filter is too large for this tank? But why do they sell it with it? Do I even need a filter? Is it ok if I take the filter out and introduce the fish now?

I wouldn't worry about it, there also might be a way to turn it down.
