View Full Version : What is going on??

I am getting really upset now. About 3 (?) months ago, Puffin lost some of his tail/fin......I assumed it was the spikey plant that I had put in there next to the coconut. I took it out, had no other problems and his tail grew back. Last night when I went up to bed, same thing....half his tail was missing. What is going on?? :( All his plants are silk, except one which has rounded leaves and isn't jaggy at all. I don't know whats going on, but I feel responsible for something snagging his tail (if thats the case). How do you know if somethings snagging it or if he's biting it himself? I haven't been able to find any pieces, either of the times. I'm so confused...... :ssad:

occassionally Bettas are self tail biters, maybe this is the case with yours?

Like I said the first time you posted about this...hes probably biting his own tail. Its really not all that uncommon in petstore bettas. I think this is likely because now you know that it cant be the plants since you replaced the sharp ones.

I can accept if he's a tail biter, I think i'm just feeling bad b/c if there is something environmental thats pulling on his tail, I want to be able to change it...so it doesn't happen. Do you think it hurts them or do you think it would be like having our hair cut?

As far as I know, so long as the damage does not get too bad it is more like a haircut. We all know it will grow back given time and good conditions.

Lol Thanks cocoa....that simplified it for me.

Okay well I figured I'd do a large water change and throw a 1/2 dose of melafix in there, so it doesn't get infected or anything. So since I was gonna do all that, I just did it real big. lol I hope I didn't stress him out. But I put him in a bowl of clean dechlorinated water (same temp as the tank). Went ahead and took out all his decor, filter, heater, etc. Put it in the bucket of dirty tank water to keep the bacteria. And went ahead and change the gravel out to sand. I keep having problems with massive amounts of floaties and things b/c I found out that the "white" stone I have in there was darker stone, coated with some sort of white "paint" or something. So I was about through with the mess of that stuff. Changed out to sand, put all his decor in, rearranged a bit....and put him in. He was flying all around the tank exploring. Laying on his plants that he loves so much...charging in and out of his coconut. So yeah, I think he's happy with it and he's got a nice clean fresh tank now. I'll post pics of it later. I think it looks good. Better than the gravel did.

Suprise for megan. They arent too sharp as there wasnt enough light and the flash cut through to much.
