I still think i'm not enjoying my penguin being so loud. Its been running for a month and still sounds like spraying water into the tank. I have adjusted water levels and found a happy medium of where its not as loud...but its stil too loud and causes a lot of current. I have plans of putting a pair of gouramis in there...and i'm afraid that the current from the filter might "blow" them around a bit. Are these adjustable? I know some filters are...just dont know about this one.

Pengiuns are a pretty good brand of filters, so I'd be surprised if they weren't adjustable.
What model do you have? I'm most familiar with the Emperor 400's. They have a grey plastic push rod that adjusts the flow rate.
I'm not too sure about the smaller models though ...

i dont think theyre adjustable. im not even using mine since its so splashy. when i had a actual hood on the 55g the hoods literally had thick algae growing on them from the moisture.

It really is splashy!....Sucks though....how do you change a filter without having to recycle ur tank? I wanted to get a AC70 originally....ugh...they didnt have it though and I was impatient...

to change, run both filters simultaneously for 2 weeks then remove the one you dont want anymore

Pengiuns have no adjustment for flow.
...and so goes the story why I hated my Penguin filter and will never buy another again.
Sorry you aren't liking your filter, Megan. If you have the money, maybe consider buying the AC70 and then putting the Penguin on eBay?

I was thinking about that. Are the AC's quiet? I dont want to exchange one loud filter for another. lol

Canister ! I say Canister ! ... no seriously, just wanted to pinpoint that most of the HOB filters are "adjustable" by raising a little bit the intake tube... in fact, if there's a few pack of small plastick dots on the intake tube... chances are that you might be able to adjust it to lower the flow tho it's hard...
I've seen theses small plastics dots on a few of the filter I got but after trying the canister... will never be back to HOB... well... never say never tho... still, check out for theses littl' dots... you might be able to say a few bucks :P
