I have a question about compatibility of my betta in my current 10g. Here is the current stock in it:

3 Tiger Barbs(Totaling 3.5")
1 Rainbow Shark(2")
1 Bushy nosed pleco(2")
2 FW Fiddler Crabs(Plant high enough so they can hang out above the water for air, which they do)

So that is about 7.5 inches+the two crabs. I have one live plant and several fake plants, along with a cave and piece of driftwood. Would my betta be OK in there? I have had him for about a year now. The rainbow shark does chase the tiger barbs on occasion, but leaves the pleco alone.

it wouldnt work. the barbs would nip his fins to death, and your tank is about at full capacity

um...fiddler crabs aree a brackish water species and they will not live long in FW. So i would remove them and put them into brackish water.

EDIT- fiddler crabs also like to spend the majority of their time onland. So i would set them up in a different tank ment for them and they also like sand for substrate ALOT better then gravel. Cause they like to make burrows on dry land.

squirts right, theyre brackish, and need a salinity of 1.018. if kept in FW they will have a very short life

Are Betta's compatible with dwarf gouramis? Rob keeps saying he wants a red betta, but I don't want to spend all that money setting up another small tank when i've already got my 29 running and i'm still putting money into that.

btw, what other fish are compatible with bettas? I have looked at the compatibility charts but they seem to not be helping much. I know its hit or miss with them...but theres a difference between possible compatible tankmates and ones that completely would not go good together.

the gouramis and bettas are a hit or miss, they may fight since they may think theyre both gouramis

with bettas, any small nippy fish are a no-no, other slow fish like cory's, ottos, plecos, etc. are fine

Ugh, petsmart said they were freshwater and would be fine in a fully aquatic environment. I will see what I can do for them.

Also, I do realize my tank is almost full, but I do a 30% water change every 3 days, and have the filter running as high as it can, so I was hoping to be able to run at max capacity. Oh well, my betta will have to live with his 2.5 gallon and I will have to live with no breeder tank :sconfused:

Thanks for all of the help

I have a betta with dwarf gouramis and haven't had a problem. The betta and one of the gouramis even share a large cave structure. If anyone else tries to come in, the gourami is usually showing them the exit, but he'll let the betta in with no problem.

Of course, this is only one sample. The PetSmart I go to had the betta in with other fish so I was pretty sure it would do ok in a community tank.
