I camre home to find that barbosa had somehow gotten past the divider andi nto firehtorns part, they musta had a big fight, barbosas ok with jsut a very chewed tail, firethorn on the other hand is not ogod at all, he is severely cut up. I'm goign to the pet stroes to day and i need to no what to get to help heal him up. I iwll get something for stress and hwat else? soemthing to prevent infection? Please help, i made a big mistake by accidentalyl overlooking that little hole in the barrier and im paying for it. I feel so horrible right now.

BT i put firethiorn in the 5g by himself half filled iwth clean water (i cleaned the 5g i want the water as clean as psosible)

for all my fishes damaged fins and cuts I use a combo of melafix and pimafix...I have had good luck with them but there might be something better if his wounds are sirious.

i dotn think i will need pimafix, because that treats fungal and internal things. I'm getting melafix and stress coat. I really appreciate your help.

Your welcome..I hope your betta heals.I would also consider not using dividers for exactly that reason, or atleast check them well everyday to make sure no seams have loosend.
I suggested pimafix to prevent a fungal infection(also treats bacterial infections) which happens quite a lot with wounds like that but you wil probobly be ok as long as the water is kept very clean and you could also consider putting in a small amount of aquarium salt but Im not sure of the exact amout ok for bettas.

Sorry to hear that......I had the same thing happen a couple years ago. Only, one of my bettas jumped over the divider. Never thought the fish could do that but......anyway, the best advice I can give you is to do daily waterchanges (partial), and to provide something within the tank for the betta to rest on if needed so he can get to air without too much effort. OR, you could lower the level of the water and it would do the same thing.
Keep him in a darkened tank and don't worry about feeding at this point. You need the water to remain as clean as possible.
This is JMO, but I would NOT add stress coat. It can be IMO somewhat gummy and may clog up the bettas gills...not something he needs right now.
Good luck!

I wanted to add, make sure you have an airstone or something in there to keep the oxygen levels high, especially if you are using Melafix.

BTW, fin damage can look awful but the fish will recover just fine. Scale damage can be healed too. Lots of water changes will go a long way to helping your fish recover!
But if the labyrinth organ is damaged there is nothing you can do. Apparently that doesn't heal well at all and they can't live without it. Let's hope that isn't the case here....

well i bought melafix and stress coat, and i put it in before reading thins, so i won't add it again. I had the water at halfway (great minds think alike lol) and i also have many plants for him to rest on. he has some scale damage and some cuts aorund his gills and along his body. Barbosa has one cut but his tail fin is severely torn (i mena severely too, all ripped up with the middle part missing), so i dosed him too. i really hope firethorn pulls through, he's not as active but he is swimming around. I had the light off all day and i'm keeping the temp around 82. he also has a cave to retreat too. I feel so bad right now too, i can't beielve this. I have an airstone in there, when i came home and saw it i imediatly got to work on seeting the tank up. I too kthe airstone from the 29g and put it in the 5g. The females are in a divided part of the 10g for now, and aires is fine. Barbosa is fine too except for his fins.

I really do appreciate all the help and suport guys, youre all great people.

Well he made it through the day. The meds made a difference too, he's alot more active and his wounds look better. It really isn't as bad as i originally thought (although it's nowhere near good) I think he's gonna live (knock on wood) Once agian guys, i really appreciate all ur help.

Glad to hear he's doing okay! :luxlove:

Huh....I have never heard of stresscoat clogging gills.....although I never add what the directions say I just add a few drops.

Think about it. Stress coat provides a "slime" coating for the fish. This slime coating goes everywhere, even on the gills which can interfere with oxygen exchange.
The only time I use Stress coat is if I've recently deep cleaned my skimmer (saltwater) and I need to prime the unit to foam up. :ezpi_wink1:

Yea that does make sense eventhough I havnt had a problem with it I think I will get a different kind for regular use. Really makes sense when you look at the directions and see how much they tell you to add wayy too much..seems like that would definately cause problems...not following directions is probobly what kept me from having problems but I will keep that in mind.

thanks for telling me about that before I had a big problem with it
one ? though what would be a good time to use it?or is there any.

Sorry this is so late....I think using just a couple of drops if the fish is damaged would probably be fine. I would not use any if the fish has damage to it's gill area though or if the fish seems to be having problems breathing. And using what they recommend is not something I would do ever.

Tropfish, really glad to hear the good news!! thumbs2:
