View Full Version : other betta species?
Has anyone had experience with bettas other than splendens? I was looking at some...mainly brownorum, albimarginata, and channoides. They look really cool. Has anyone even seen them in a lfs? Ive never looked so I dont know if their avalible or not.
Any information on the care and availablility of any species other than splendens would be very appreciated..thanks

I have not heard of any of them being in an LFS... I would check with your local fish club. I know Brown's Betta requires a pH of 4 for breeding purposes so I really would not recommend them unless you are prepared for that...
You can also check the International Betta Congress and see if there is a chapter near you. They most likely would have some the more difficult speicies to get a hold of available.

::Nods:: nice and acidy.... ::shudders::
Brown's betta is an interesting fish, try looking them up sometime.
Another really cool fish that I do not remember the name of is the current holder of the world's smallest fish. If I remember the article I read a while back, it was found in a pond with a pH of something like 3.2
I dont nessesarily want to keep the real difficult species I just used those three as an example because they look cool especially the red one. Ive just never seen any species other than splendens in my lfs. Although with how some of them look I never would have known:)......I will have to check with my one lfs they usually carry or can get fish that are more rare so mabey they would know how readily availible they are.

They sound like they are really hard to take care of...like really hard..but also they sound interesting. lol.
I have a huge list of different species and some had more easy requirments to care for them but only real basic info was given its hard to find anything in detail
