just like the title says... I'm looking for a cool oddball fish to add to my 29 gallon freshwater tank. I've only got 10 silvertips and a rubber lip pleco in there right now, I was thinking a bichir might be cool, but i'm unsure what species would stay small enough for my tank. What about Goo Obo Gudgeons? Are they as cool as they look? personality-wise, how are they? What are your ideas? I'd prefer an omnivore as I'd like all the fish to be able to live on the same diet...

Silver tips as in silver tip sharks? They prefer a little salt and get like 10" so they need to go. The goo obo is ok but is poisonous watch out.

Bichars will eat the tetras; its in their nature to eat something that small. The Gudgeons can get persnickity with small tankmates. You want something unusual, look for Dario dario.

Thanks gm. They'd definately be the only person on their block with a group of those in their tank lol

I had not heard of them before you suggested them.

They are VERY popular amongst the Nandid folks, as they are very closely related to Badis badis, another gorgeous little fish.

Unless you are willing to buy online, you really just need to look through LFSs within a descent driving distance, see what they have in stock and ask what else they can get it. No use in getting interested in something you can't get.

I have a good buddy who orderss for one of my LFS here in town... he said he can get anything with minimal charge, so that's not so much of an issue for me... Those Badis are carnivores though, correct?

Carnivores the same way as small tetras are, FC.

my tetras are carnivores? I thought they were omnivores... Reason I ask is because I'd like to use mainly flake food with bloodworms as a supplement... I don't want to have to buy worms etc for all of their meals, because it seems like that would be expensive. Looking at liveaquaria, I think the badis look very cool, I just want to make sure they'd be happy in my tank. picked up a few angels today, waiting for a pair to form so I can sell back the rest. I'm leaning towards some cool loaches, at the moment. maybe a hillstream loach, or are thy brackish?

Are there any FW eels that could do okay in a 29? o are they going to have that same problem of only eating meat?

I saw some hillstream loaches at the lfs the other day and they are really cool.I think they are freshwater but you'd have to check and they like a lot of water current. And somewhere I read that they are not really loaches.
As for eels Ive got nothin'

A 29 will only suffice 1 pair of angels, nothing else in the tank because when they spawn, there isn't enough room to support anything else.

I agree that once the angels are adults and ready to breed that they will need more space to themselves. Once that happens I'll deal with it, as we plan on getting a 55g as well, anyhow. For now, since they are small juveniles, my question is simply what else to put with them.

i really wouldnt put anything else in your 29g. The angels will grow fast enough.

Yup, in a few months they will keep everything in a corner.
