OK. How big is the tank? filter? heater?

The tan kreally needs weekly W/cs , and if its not filtered then every 3 days, and if not heated, it needs to be in a warm room with very little temp fluctuation, or a heater. The minimum for one betta is a 1g, although i would recommend a 2.5G

ok in a 1g with no filter, you should do a w/c every 3-4 days. What is the temp in the tank, and is the temp constant or does it fluctuate during day and night?

Sry, lol i don't stay logged on all the time. That sounds good. Bt make sure you do a 50% w/c every 3-4 days, and a 100% w/c once a week.

If you have a 4 yr old betta, you must be doing something right. I think their lifespan is generally around 2 years and who knows how long they lived in that crummy little cup before they were purchased.

But I agree with the others. I'd rather see them in a betta tank (or a 5 gallon) with heater and filter.

but what if i put it in with guppies and corys in a 30-40 gal tank?

tropfish

thats iffy. My crowntail can't go with guppies butcause he chases thme constantly (thinks it's another betta) but aries can go fine with them. It all depends on the temperment of the betta. is it just cories and guppies?

ok, thne i would test it out. Acclimate the betta to the tank and put him in. Watch him for a few days to see what he does.

Well it sounds like you're taking pretty good care of your betta if he's made it 4 years old. I have one that I've had almost 2 years who I gave a rather rough start by not knowing how to properly care for him. He's still hanging on but I can tell he's getting old. I don't know if there's anything specifically that you do for an aging betta as opposed to a younger one.

I guess you just want to make sure that you keep the tank as clean as possible and stable as possible and maybe add some variety in his diet like bloodworms or brine shrimp one a week or so. If you're fish is happy he'll probably show it by blowing a bubble nest from time to time.

all i have ever fed it was pellets.

If he's been alone all his life I'd be hesitant to put him in with other fish. It make stress him out and make him sick.

Mine only got pellets for most of their lives too. I just started adding in some variety. I guess we'll see if it helps any.

Cool! Did he dig it? When I gave my old betta some it was hard to tell if he liked it or not. I'm beginning to think he's kinda blind or something because if he's not looking right at the food when I drop it in there he misses it.
