ive been cruising local ads for MH lights, and ive found a used 500W for 200$, kinda suspicious to go so cheap, but i also found this. the catch is theres no bulb

are bulbs really pricey?

would these be the bulbs it takes? if so it seems like a great deal so i called the guy and left him a message saying that saturday morning i'll pick one up. sounds like its from a lighting business going out of business

::Looks around:: Geez, not one answer... sorry cocoa...
Anyhow, it is always best to take the fixture with you when you do not know the bulb size. There are multiple different fixtures using multiple different bubls... MH isn't as bad as some of the other types but it can still be an issue.

thanks!
one question though, ive looked at reef lighting, and for medium-high light corals i saw 3 articles saying that unless you have a deep 55g tall you dont need metal halide, and that 250-400W of fluorescent instead of a MH is fine. true?

I've heard the same thing, however I know lots of people using MH. Just be careful as they are HOT!!! Most people I know put the spacer legs on their tanks to avoid cooking the surface of the water.

::looks alarmed:: uh no...
You only add salt if you take salt out, otherwise your salt levels will build up to toxic levels... RO for evaporation...
