My first babies!

One of my dwarf sunset platies decided it was time!

She's in a divider all by herself, though they aren't too bad for eating their young compared to other fish.

I'm very excited, these are the first fish to give birth under my care. True that they are livebearers, but still.

Awesome! I enjoyed watching our little platies give birth too....until it got to be toooooooo many platies! As for not eating their young as readily as some species, I think that only applies for a few hours after birth. There is a natural inclination not to chow on them as soon as they are born.....survival of the species and all that, but after a few hours, all bets are off! You did right to separate her for now until they get a little bigger.

Yeah, I'm thrilled

Well I put the babies in a small net breeder. There is still 3, from last night. She still looks very pregnant though, and is acting like it too. Dunno what is up.

The 3 babies are doing well. Don't know where mommy is hiding. Made the mistake of filling the platy tank with rocks and I hardly ever see them. It's really quite weird. I'm going to change it to gravel at the bottom and a few rocks around, but don't want to streess the pregnant females any more right now.

Still, I could have 50 adult platies in there and not see any, LOL.
