Hi,

on another forum they said that it would be ok for me to keep keyholes with neones and guppies, but o how wrong they were, as soon as the keyholes went they chased the neons non stop. I've had to move them into a 15 gallon with guppies and cherries. They were some bad ass keyholes. Any how, just do trust everything you read on forums.

all cichlids should be kept with their own family of fish.

never put them with guppy, neon or like kinds.

any things you are told on the net, make sure you double check the infor, you are giving.

that is why you should have some good fish books, to fall back on.

Well you know that I disagree with you on this topic rollie. Problems with aggression in cichlids are in 99% of the cases due to a for the purpose porly decorated aquarium.

Keyholes cichlids usually work well with neons and other similar fishes. I have kept both breed and wild caught keyholes in similar communities and never had any problems. (the exception to this being large keyholes with small/young neons in which case the sometimes are considered as food)

You might just have had bad luck and bought a keyhole that is unusually aggressive but there can be other reasons for this problem. how is your tank decorated and how big are the keyholes and the neons?

Actualy the keyholes have a massive cave all to themselvs, is just when ever i put anything smaller than my serpae tetras in they go mad.

Are they large enough to consider the smaller fish as food.?

NO way they are about 1/2 adult size.

Hmm sounds strange. They should attack larger fish as well if it was a problem with aggression. Do you have any small fish you could keep with them for a while with the risk of loosing them. They miht consodered them ass food even though they are to large to eat and might notice that i they get to hunt some small fish for a few days.

But you would be gambling with the life of the small fish.

Get feeding guppys or some barbs that are used to feed large fish even goldfish will do since they are low cost!

They cost less if you buy them as feeders. Then you can find them around 0.25$. If your lfs don't keep them perhaps some of the local fishing stores does.

I could never feed live fish to other fish unless it was for the life of one of my presous platnium angelfish.

Thanks william. I have decided to keep the keyholes as the smallest fish in the tank. Their in with Angels and sharks.
