I think we're getting one tonight as well. They came highly recommended.

I took my suction cup thermometor off for about 10 minutes once and there was algae growing where the suction cup made contact with the glass. Before I got the thermometer back to the tank, the Oto had already eaten all of the algae. They're active little buggers.

Yes! They're the best! But they're finnicky to keep alive, make sure you feed daily once your tank is cleaned up...

They are also a schooling fish...only's are known to die quickly...get 4-6 min.

As you can probably tell, they are my favorite fish, by far. I had 2 of them in my 20gallon, and they disappeared. I have to go and get 3 more soon. They are great and fun to watch for kids.
Pros:
- Fast
- Active
- Rarely Hide in cave
- Clean a whole tank in 24 hours
- Economical
Cons:
- Small hard to see
- Sometimes die for no reason

IMO, NO, however, it depends what kind of algae you are talking about. I know they don't eat BBA which takes over some of my plants in my tank right now.
However, I thought they were suppose to eat regular green algae but I have green algae covering my driftwood right now. Maybe time for a clown pleco or something.

I have green and bron algae. It stopped growing, but I'm way too lazy to wipe it off. So that's why I want an oto.

Back when my tank was just starting out, I had the brown algae, and I got a pleco, and man, that thing did a great job with the algae. And with the plants, lol

They are great! I totally agree they are finnicky to keep alive. I've also found that they don't eat all kinds of algae or maybe MINE just don't eat all kinds. I have only one left in my 20g and he seems happy on his own. I'll probably try to get him some mates soon its just hard to find healthy ones.
