Hi All. I've been lurking and learning for a few weeks now, so I figured it was time to tell my story.
My wife and I have had a few 10g tanks over the years with varying degrees of success. They mostly had goldfish which I now realize was not the best choice for a tank that size. We've always wanted a larger tank, but considering our success with the smaller tanks, we didn't think it was a good idea.
About a month ago I learned that one of my friends at work is quite experienced at fish keeping and offered to help me get a larger tank going. After he explained that larger tanks were a bit easier to manage (although more expensive to start) and explained all the chemical processes that occur in a tank (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, bacteria, cycling, etc.), I was hooked. I'm now the proud owner of a 55g tank. It's currently stocked with 3 clown loaches, 2 mollies, 2 platys, 6 glofish, 1 upside down catfish, and a betra. My kids, wife, and I are really enjoying this hobby. I'm even considering a saltwater tank in the future (maybe in a year or so).
Thanks to all for providing such great information on this site. I hope to continue to learn and maybe even contribute a little in the future.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Here's a quick photo of my setup. It's changed a bit since this was taken (more plants and more fish), but you'll get the basic idea.

LOL! We call it Rome on LSD.
I started out thinking we were do more natural (drift wood w/ rock and plants), but this is what jumped out at us at the store. My 3 year old picked out all the really bright stuff.

Well, we just added to our little fish family. We picked up 2 African Dwarf Frogs, 2 Dwarf Gouramis, and 2 Sunburst Coral Dwarf Platies. Now we are waiting to see if everyone gets along.
